Another day another medal, India is going for glory in the last days of the Olympics where they won their 6th medal in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 equalling their tally of London 2012 where they won 6 medals too. And what the interesting thing is, In London also we have won 4 bronze and 2 silver and in Tokyo also we have won 4 bronze and 2 silver. And the new member to join that prestigious list of medalists is Bajrang Punia. Before the Olympics when Indian media was speculating the candidates who can bring medals, Bajrang was one of the main athletes so at that time he is trusted by everyone to bring a medal. And he didn’t disappoint his fans and the people of India by winning a Bronze medal in the freestyle 65kg weight category.

He started his Olympics outing against E. Akmataliev and Bajrang looks confident in his first match, but the match was tight but at the end, he managed to cross the line and won the match and qualified for the quarter-finals where M. Ghiasi Cheka was waiting for him to give him the tough fight. And first, half the match was looking very tight and Cheka got the lead of 1 point but in second half Bajrang took 2 points lead and then he got the moment to remember, he pins down his opponent and won the match by 2-1 by fall (Fall means if your opponent both shoulders touches the mat then you win automatically). And with this win, he sights his eyes on the semi-final and he started smelling the medal and he came up against H. Aliyev which is a bit disappointed for him because whenever he was going for a point he somehow gifts the point to his opponent but still he showed some real fight, but unfortunately he lost the match by 12-5. But still, the chance for winning the medal was not over, there was one more chance where he can win the match and can win a bronze medal for his country. So he came drew against D. Niyazbekov of Kazakhstan and he showed complete dominance on the mat, he showed who is real boss, he showed he is the main man basically in 6 minutes he was so good, it was a flawless performance and he attacked well, on many occasions he found wrong-footed and attacked his one leg and tried to take him down and earn points in same fashion 2 times and he got some other moves and with those beautiful moves and won the match by 8-0 by complete domination.
So a big congratulations to Bajrang, his hard work get payoff today, and credits to his coach also who have surely played a big role in this achievement.
Thank You
